Max
Purdie and Petra Rijnbeek (Chicane Duo)
Petra has been singing since her late teens, mostly overseas to start
but then came on the Jazz scene singing at the Waiheke Jazz festival
in its early years and later in the Mission Bay Jazz Festival. She trained
under Cheryl McClay and was invited to join the Sammy Davis Jnr School
of Music in 1996. She has had the pleasure of jamming with Charmaine
Neville and Lillian Bute, also the Paris Swing Orchestra and local talent
like Leon Wharekura, Peta and the Weta’s and Carl Mose. Petra
has been likened to Sarah Vaughan with a twist of Norah Jones and loves
to bring the modern performers to the repertoire mix.
Keyboard is handled by the accomplished Max Purdie who is in other
bands such as The Rum and Boogie Band and Peta and the Weta’s.
With over 40 years in the business playing in the early days with Sunny
Day and Roger Fox and also appearing on a successful music show. Max
also started the Mission Bay Jazz festival; Max is dynamic on the keys
and a legend in the Jazz scene.
Grant
P Chilcott
For over 20 years, Grant Chilcott's career has spanned an enviable variety
of music. He makes an impact
with swinging vocals and the Big Band sound, can move to the austere
elegance of the Noel Coward repertoire, and then raise the temperature
with the contrasting vibrancy of Latin American rhythms - plus throwing
in some startling vocal impressions of Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin,
Mario Lanza. Grant has stepped in front to solo position with
the Auckland Phil harmonia; won a Mobil radio award for Best musical
programme of the year; and recorded cds with a theme, such as the latest
- "Songs From the Movies" with the NZSO strings and brass.
To date, Chilcott is the only New Zealand artist to appear on the New
York recording label MMO.
